Cape Motorsports ready for Iowa Speedway return

The team won on the Iowa oval in USF2000 in 2017 and last contested an INDY NXT race there in 2010

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (July 20, 2023) – Cape Motorsports returns to Iowa Speedway this weekend with the INDY NXT by Firestone series, competing in the team’s first series oval since 2010.

Cape Motorsports last scored a victory at Iowa in the 2017 USF2000 series with Oliver Askew, who went on to capture the series championship title. The team last raced at Iowa in what was then known as Firestone Indy Lights in 2010 with driver Gustavo Yacaman, who finished fifth.

Scottsdale, Ariz. native Jagger Jones will be the team’s lone entry, with British Pakistani driver Enaam Ahmed absent for the race weekend.

“Enaam will not be driving for us at Iowa, due to budgetary problems,” said Dominic and Nicholas Cape. “Hopefully he will be back in the car soon.

“We learned a great deal at last month’s Iowa test,” the brothers continued. “This will be the first oval for the new Firestone tires and we’re ready for the challenge.”

Jones, who will celebrate his 21st birthday next week, finished fifth in his lone open wheel oval, the USF2000 race last year at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. He looks forward to the challenges the .875-mile variable banking tri-oval presents.

“I’m excited to get to our first oval race of the year,” said Jones. “Iowa is an exciting track with multiple grooves that makes for great racing. We had a good test and hope to be in contention this weekend!”

The INDY NXT by Firestone on Friday as part of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ Hy-Vee Homefront 250 weekend. Friday practice (3:15 p.m. EDT) and qualifying ( will be broadcast on INDYCAR LIVE and INDYCAR Radio, with both races live on Peacock.
