BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (April 7, 2010) -- After a strong debut in the No. 10 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara during the opening round of Firestone Indy Lights, Colombian Gustavo "Tigrillo" Yacamán is focused on standing on the podium this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.
The season-opener on the Streets of St. Petersburg was wet and wild, as the race was slowed by cautions and shortened by 10 laps. Yacamán was able to maneuver through the less-than-ideal weather conditions and work his way through traffic to finish in the top five.
“The first race at St. Pete was a great boost for all of us,” Yacamán said. “We knew we were going to do quite well. I am satisfied with the result, but unfortunately, because of a couple of mistakes I had, we lost a podium finish. We have much more to show, and we will show it."
This weekend will mark the first Firestone Indy Lights race at Barber Motorsports Park. The team tested at the 2.3-mile, 17-turn track in February.
"The Barber open test was our first test as a team,” Yacamán said. “We did it just hours after the car was built, but we still did a pretty good job. I am excited to go there because we have a really strong road-course car, plus it is my natural habitat. I was raised on tracks like Barber, not surrounded by walls, so I am sure we will be really strong."
With the first race behind them and a solid finish to be proud of, the Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing team is ready to capitalize on the momentum from the first race.
“We were pleased with the top-five finish at St. Petersburg,” said Technical Director Dominic Cape. “It was a good way to start the season, and we learned a lot about the car. We are looking forward to a good race at Barber.”
Yacamán will first be on track for practice beginning at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, April 9, and then again at 2:55 p.m. Qualifying will be Saturday at 8:15 a.m. After a morning warm-up on Sunday, April 11 at 8:00 a.m., the 40-lap race will begin at 12:00 p.m. (All times are local).
The race can be seen LIVE on streaming video on Indycar.com. Tickets can be purchased at www.barbermotorsports.com or by calling (800)240-2300.
