LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 14, 2010) – With two solid finishes under his belt, Colombian Gustavo "Tigrillo" Yacamán will make his second career start on the Streets of Long Beach this weekend in the No. 10 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara for the third round of Firestone Indy Lights.
For the 36th consecutive year, race cars will be driven through the heart of Long Beach, and for just the second year, Firestone Indy Lights will be part of the festivities with a 45-lap race Sunday, April 18th.
Yacamán drove a smart race just days ago at Barber Motorsports Park and is excited about tackling the 1.968-mile, 11-turn street course.
“I really like this track,” Yacamán said. “It is a great venue, and it’s one of the most prestigious street courses, even F1 used to race here back in the day. It’s a track that has great history, but it also has an amazing layout. It has really fast corners for a street course, it has a roundabout and it has the tightest hairpin in the world. There is no race track or street track in the world with a tighter and slower hairpin as this one, which then leads to a really long straight that provides great opportunity for passing.”
Yacamán finished fifth in the opening round on the Streets of St. Petersburg in March. With a similar car set up for Long Beach, the team has high hopes for a good performance.
“At St. Petersburg we had a pretty good car, so I am sure we will have good speed at Long Beach,” Yacamán said. “My number one goal above everything is to finish the race. After that, I want to keep finishing in the top five and aim for the podium.”
Yacamán will first hit the track for practice on Friday, April 16 at 12:15 p.m. for an hour-long practice session. The next morning practice is at 8 a.m. before 12:55 p.m. qualifying on Saturday, April 17. There is a morning warm-up on Sunday, April 18th at 8 a.m. and the green flag waves at 10:40 a.m. for the 45-lap race. All times are PT.
The qualifying session and race can be seen LIVE on streaming video on Indycar.com. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (888) 82-SPEED.
