McKenna Dominates Testing at OReilly Raceway Park

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (May 11, 2010) – It was hard to believe Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing driver Patrick McKenna had no experience on an oval speedway before the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda test at OʼReilly Raceway Park as the Irishmen led every practice session during the May 5th and 6th event.

McKenna set the fastest lap in the first session of the second day with a time of 21.667 seconds (113.980 mph) on the 0.686-mile oval.

Currently second in the point standings, the driver showed he was the person to beat when the drivers return to racing at O’Reilly Raceway Park the night before the Indianapolis 500.

"I was delighted with how the test went, everything went to plan, and we got to go through our program,” McKenna said. “The team has a lot of experience on ovals and did a great job in tuning the car and helping me learn how to be quick on an oval. To finish up fastest in all eight sessions was fantastic, but in testing nothing matters until were racing, and I'm really looking forward to racing at ORP the night before the Indianapolis 500.”

Teammate Josh Fielding was not far behind McKenna as he was third quickest in the first day of practice and fifth overall 22.520 (109.663 mph), despite contact with the wall on the first day.

Though he had limited laps, he was gained much needed experience for the race later this month.

"I had very little time in the car due to an incident on the first day on my third session, but I was still fast and running in the top three,” Fielding said. “I learned a lot from the two days of testing, and I found it great to work with Patrick. Since he was fastest, I learned a lot from him and his data. I am ready for the race, and ready to get on the podium!”

The next round of the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda will be held the night before the Indianapolis 500, May 29th, at nearby OʼReilly Raceway Park. Practice starts May 28th at 2 p.m., with qualifying at 1:30 p.m. the following day, May 29th. Green flag for the 50-lap-race will wave at 6 p.m.

Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing was formed in 2010 as a partnership between two successful racing entities. With leadership from brothers Nicholas and Dominic Cape, and along with Wayne Taylor and his organization in Indianapolis, the team campaigns cars in Firestone Indy Lights with Gustavo Yacamán, as well as the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda with drivers Josh Fielding and Patrick McKenna.
