ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (July 21, 2010) – When the No. 10 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing team and driver Gustavo Yacamán arrive in Edmonton for the Firestone Indy Lights race this week, they bring with them a lot of momentum as the team scored their best finish of the season less than a week ago on the Streets of Toronto.
The second street-course in two weeks, Round 8 of Firestone Indy Lights will be held at the Edmonton City Centre Airport, July 23-25, with the race on Sunday afternoon.
After starting fourth at Toronto, his best start of the season, Yacamán held his position during the entire race. Both he and the No. 40 of Dan Clarke were able to pass the second-place car on Turn 3 on the final lap, moving Yacaman into the third position when the checkered flag flew.
His third place at Toronto was the young Colombian driver’s best career finish in Firestone Indy Lights. He hopes to use the momentum in Edmonton and have another strong race.
“It was great to be on the podium,” he said. “We have worked very hard during the year, and this was a great thing to recharge our batteries so we can work even harder. For Edmonton, we have to do exactly what we did at Toronto. Qualifying is key. If we can do that again (qualifying in the top rows), the race pace will be good.”
Currently 7th in the point standings, Yacaman trails sixth-place Stefan Wilson by only 11 points. With another good race finish, he is in position to move up in the points.
Yacaman and the No. 10 machine will first hit the track Friday, July 23rd at 1:30 p.m. MDT (3:30 p.m. ET). Another practice Saturday, July 24th, at 9:15 a.m. MDT (11:15 a.m. ET) will be followed by qualifying at 2:15 p.m. MDT (4:15 p.m. ET).
After morning warm-up at 9:20 a.m. MDT (11:20 a.m. ET), the 50-lap Edmonton 100 will go green at 1 p.m. MDT (3 p.m. ET). All the racing action can be seen on streaming video at www.indycar.com. Tickets can be purchased by going to www.hondaindyedmonton.com.
