Finland’s Matias Koykka stood on top of the VIR podium after a closing-stages battle among four cars that saw them running nose-to-tail, three wide, and changing positions lap after lap. The F1600 Formula F Championship Series produced again, with Kyokka’s Spectrum/Honda for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing barely edging out Colin Thompson’s TTO Motorsports Swift DB6/Honda and the Mygale/Honda of Brandon Newey for Bryan Herta Autosport.

“That was some serious racing and this was a brilliant car,” said the 17-year-old Koykka who started from the pole. “The car was good and the yellow flag in the middle of the race bunched us up, there was some good pressure there from the other guys.”

The win marks the first for Cape Motorsports with the Australian-built Spectrum chassis.
